Dealing with Deaths in Yisrael...

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

* Becoming unclean by the Dead

* Uncleanness touching a Grave

* Separation from Mikra-Quodesh

* Preparation for Burial

One of the main concerns about dealing with the dead and attending funerals is the separation from the Mikrah-Quodesh (Holy Assembly) and what we do for cleansing. While we are in foreign lands we cannot do any Koheneim practices so we cannot kill a red heifer for the water of purification. The most we can do in the lands of our captivity, is fasting and affliction on the 3rd and 7th days.

When one is in a room someone dies in whether in the bayt or at a Hospital they are unclean for seven days and must perform a certain spiritual ritual on the 3rd and 7th day (BeMidbar 19:14,19).

If a person touch a dead body or a grave, they are unclean for 7 days and must go through the spiritual rituals. If a Yisraelite visits a Hospital just assume you might be unclean for a day, if you enter a hallway of dead bodies you will become unclean.
